Daliso Chaponda & Britain’s Got Talent

Daliso Chaponda has gained notoriety after his appearance in Britain’s Got Talent, having made it all the way to the 2017 final and becoming a fan favourite with both judges and viewers.

This has propelled him to stardom on social media sites like Facebook and YouTube, where he has earned more than 200 million views for his comedic videos.

In addition, Daliso is the creator, writer and presenter of Citizen of Nowhere (Rose d’Or nominated for two series) which airs on BBC Radio 4.

On 3 June 2017, Daliso Chaponda was a contestant on Britain’s Got Talent and nearly won the grand prize of £250,000 (approximately US$324,000). After appearing on the show, he stated in an interview that he would use his prize money to purchase a home for his mother in Malawi and to pursue his comedy career.

Additionally, Chaponda desired to raise awareness of issues faced by people living in poverty throughout Africa. The public’s reaction has been highly positive, commending him not only for his talent but also for representing Africa in a favourable manner.

Worldwide performances have earned Chaponda much recognition, ranging from comedy festival appearances at Edinburgh, Melbourne, Singapore and Cape Town events to two successful UK tours that received extraordinary reviews.
